Pig Gestation Calculator — Farrowing Due Date & Chart

Pigs are pregnant for an average of 114 days — roughly “3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days” — with a normal range of about 112 to 120 days (Penn State Extension, University of Missouri Extension). Enter the breeding date in the pig gestation calculator above and it returns the estimated farrowing date, the expected window and a set of management milestones.

The number this calculator uses

The tool adds the gestation length to your breeding (mating) date: farrowing date = breeding date + 114 days for standard and pot-belly pigs. That 114-day figure is the long-standing swine benchmark and is confirmed both by extension services and by peer-reviewed work on gestation length in pigs (NCBI). Because sows vary, the calculator also shows a window rather than a single guaranteed day — real herd records commonly average anywhere from about 114 to 117 days across farms (National Hog Farmer).

How long is a pig’s gestation period?

The average pig (or swine, or hog) gestation period is 114 days, or about 3¾ months. In practice, farrowing anywhere from roughly 112 to 120 days after breeding is considered normal, which is why experienced breeders prepare the farrowing area several days before the due date. Piglets born a little early or late are usually healthy; delivery before about day 109 is treated as premature or abortion and warrants a vet call. The swine gestation period is the same whether you call the animal a pig, a hog or swine — those are the same species (Sus scrofa domesticus).

Gestation length by breed and type

Most breeds sit right on the 114-day average. KuneKunes are the notable exception, running about two days longer, and wild or feral hogs are effectively the same as domestic pigs.

Type / breed Average gestation Typical range
Standard / commercial pig 114 days 112–120 days
Miniature / pot-belly pig 114 days 112–120 days
KuneKune pig 116 days ~114–119 days
Wild / feral hog ~115 days 112–120 days

Note: if you searched for guinea pig gestation, that’s a different animal — a rodent that is pregnant for roughly 59–72 days, not 114 — so this swine tool won’t apply.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter the breeding (mating) date — the day the sow was served or inseminated.
  2. Choose the breed or type (or pick “Custom length” to use your own herd’s average).
  3. Read the estimated farrowing date, the farrowing window and the days remaining.
  4. Use the management milestones to schedule pregnancy checks, feeding changes and moving the sow to farrowing quarters.
  5. Tap Print / save to keep a copy with your breeding records.

Based on the selected breed length for the year of your breeding date. Individual sows vary — always allow for the full window above.

How it works: farrowing date = breeding date + gestation length (standard pigs average 114 days — "3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days"). The window reflects normal biological variation of about 112–120 days.

Disclaimer: These dates are estimates for planning only and are not veterinary advice. Individual sows vary; keep breeding records, watch for nesting and udder changes near term, and consult your veterinarian.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the gestation period for pigs in days?
About 114 days on average, with a normal range of roughly 112–120 days (University of Missouri Extension).

What is the pig gestation period in months?
Roughly 3¾ months — the classic memory aid is “3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days,” which adds up to 114 days.

    Is a pig’s gestation period 150 days?
No. 150 days is the figure for goats and sheep. Pigs (and hogs and swine) are pregnant for about 114 days.

Do pot-belly or mini pigs have a different gestation period?
No — miniature and pot-belly pigs follow the same ~114-day average as standard pigs.

How long are KuneKune pigs pregnant?
About 116 days, roughly two days longer than other pig breeds (Empire KuneKune Pig Association).

What is a wild or feral hog’s gestation period?
Wild hogs are the same species as domestic pigs and carry for about 114–115 days.

How can I tell my sow is close to farrowing?
In the last week she’ll usually begin nesting, her udder fills and the vulva swells; a milk let-down and restlessness often mean farrowing is within a day.
